Merlot

Baby Female Siberian Husky / Mixed

This pet is no longer available for adoption.

Merlot arrived at Husky House on 2/24/2007 after being surrendered to the city shelter due to seizures. She is just 16 weeks old and weighs only 12 lbs. She has been diagnosed as of 2/28/07 with needing liver shunt surgery. UPDATE as of 3/22/07: Her second (more serious) surgery to correct her liver shunt problem is scheduled for Tuesday, 3/27/07. Currently she is doing very well in her foster home. Please keep her in your prayers as she undergoes surgery next week. Merlot has a blood disorder in addition to needing the liver shunt surgery. She is undergoing frozen plasma treatments and has had 4 blood transfusions as of 3/8/07. Once she is strong enough to have the surgery, she will have the procedure. Her medical bills are now up to $5,000 but will not exceed that amount. Thanks to all who have donated in trying to save her life. We will keep you posted. **UPDATE** Merlot had her 2nd surgery 3/27/07 & is recovering great. We have had NO COMPLICATIONS!! Everyone at the house is happy happy happy to report our little girl is pulling through. Merlot will be coming home from the hospital on Sat 3/31 to complete her recovery. We still need to raise $1500 to pay off her medical bills so we are still accepting donations. Thank You for all your support, because of your donations we were able to fight for this sweet little girl who refused to give up. ***URGENT! Can anyone offer a fundraiser locally (say in Morris, Sussex or Somerset County) like a pet boutique or pet supply store or regular store where we could receive the funds from the fundraiser to help defer the cost of her much-needed surgery, we could provide nice giveaways/door prizes. Husky House has a Tax ID number and also has applied for and is waiting for our 501C, which should be coming in the next 60 days. We can also accept gift certificates from restaurants to help with our giveaways, upcoming street fairs, etc. If so, please email allyson@huskyhouse.org Merlot is quite a sweet little girl who loves to play & has quickly stolen the hearts of all that meet her. PLEASE MAKE A DONATION towards Merlot's medical care & help us to give her the chance she so richly deserves! Please note, that at this time, Husky House does not adopt out of the immediate NY/NJ area. *The minimum age for adopters is 23 yrs. old and you must reside within a one hour drive from either NYC or from Bridgewater, NJ. We DO NOT do long distance adoptions because we do homevisits prior to the pup going to its new home. *We do not adopt out Siberian puppies (under 1 year of age) unless you have prior Siberian experience or have researched the breed thoroughly. *We DO NOT place in homes that rely on the invisible/electric fence as the sole means of containment. If your yard is fenced in - your fence must be at least 5 feet tall. Adoptions Application
