Poor Archie is very nervous around people, which is understandable given his history. He does not go out of his way to snap, but may growl or get snappy when people do not respect his boundaries (e.g. try to pick him up when he is uncomfortable). Archie does well with other small dogs. He has never been cat tested but would be expected to do well with cats as he is small and not overly playful. Interested in adopting Archie? Image of Maverick

Maverick

Adult Male Siberian Husky

Meet Maverick! Maverick is a husky mix who is looking for his loving forever home. Maverick was abused by his previous owners, who dumped him at a kill shelter before he was pulled by Husky House. Understandably, he has difficulty trusting people in some situations and can resource guard his kennel as well as his food. You would, too, if you never knew when your next meal was coming and had never had a comfy place of your own to sleep! However, he is very friendly outside of his kennel and is super excited to meet new people in the yard or on walks. His ideal family needs to go slow and be patient, while building trust. As Maverick gets to know and trust volunteers who spend time with him, he lets down his guard and realizes he doesn’t have to protect himself - he even lets one of his favorite volunteers sit with him in his kennel and pet him while he’s eating meals! Maverick also loves playing with dogs his size, although he is easily excited and may need some redirection, especially when playing with female dogs. Reese

Baby Female Bernese Mountain Dog / Poodle (unknown type)

Meet Reese! We were told that Reese is a “mini Bernadoodle” who came to Husky House as a puppy with some serious medical issues: a dual aortic arch, which caused megaesophagus. Her original owners surrendered her to Husky House as they were not able to afford the surgery to address these medical issues. The initial plan for Reese was to wait a few months before scheduling the surgery so she could gain size, but the procedure had to be moved up when she suddenly started choking one day. Thankfully, she survived the surgery that was skillfully performed by Dr. Hoelzler at Garden State- a surgery that only four dogs have survived EVER! Reese has recovered and can now eat small meals like a regular dog. She does not have to use a Bailey Chair, but she needs to have her meals and snacks spaced out. This can be a problem, because this little girl LOVES her snacks lol. Reese is sweet, snuggly, playful, and dog friendly and she’s only about 9 pounds! Interested in applying for Reese? Rocky

Young Male Saluki / Anatolian Shepherd / Mixed

Meet (Orange) Rocky! Rocky is a shepherd mix who has been waiting at Husky House for his loving forever home for nearly 5 years! Rocky was originally born in Iran, and his first owners physically abused him, including putting out lit cigarettes on his body. Rocky understandably has difficulty trusting new people and can be snappy when afraid, but is very sweet and loving with those he trusts. Rocky spends a lot of time during the day with Sage, a fellow adoptable who has epilepsy, and he is so compassionate that volunteers have witnessed him protecting her from the other dogs when she has a seizure. Rocky is great with other dogs and even lived in a foster home with cats before coming to the US! Rocky needs to continue his leash training, especially in higher traffic areas. Recently, one of our volunteers has been taking him in his car and driving him to go on hikes at Cheesequake park and he does really well! He will need a home with a fenced in yard, so he can relieve himself and get some exercise while he continues to get comfortable on a leash. Ideally, Rocky’s future family would come and visit several times before attempting to take him home. Interested in fostering or adopting Rocky? Meet Tennyson, affectionately known as Tenny. He is a Husky mix that was abandoned on a back road in MS on Christmas Eve of 2019. He was heartworm positive and received successful treatment in 2020. Tenny is a very active boy that loves getting into new adventures. He sits, shakes, and leash walks well. Tenny is great with kids and has been a foster brother to many dogs of all ages. Due to his size (92#, 3' high) caution is to be exercised when he runs with smalls. He has never attacked any living creature, but he sometimes isn't aware of how tall or heavy he is when he's in play mode. Tenny is a bit strong willed, so a stern pack leader and experienced Husky owner is recommended. Interested in adopting Tenny? Please visit www.huskyhouse.org today to fill out an application.

Adult Female Shepherd / Siberian Husky / Mixed

Meet Daisy! Daisy is a husky/shepherd mix. She was surrendered back to Husky House by her previous owners who adopted her as a puppy. Daisy took some time to adjust back to being in the kennel and it is clear that she misses being in a home. She is a sweet and affectionate pup outside of the kennel but can be nervous in her room. Daisy is also nervous around fast-moving cars and would do best in a home with a fenced in yard or in a very quiet neighborhood. She is excellent on leash on outings to low traffic areas (such as the woods or the beach) and enjoys car rides. Daisy can also get upset when people don’t respect her boundaries/personal space and therefore would not be a good fit for a home with young children. Sully

Senior Male German Shepherd Dog

Meet Sully! Due to no fault of his own (read his full story HERE on FB), Sully is back in the kennel that he dislikes so much. We have him on medication due to his arthritis, but he has trouble even climbing over the one step to the patio area of his run. He is completely housebroken and will hold it in until he is walked. He is nervous when a new person approaches his kennel, but who can blame him? He knows a lot of commands and will even go “down”, although it hurts him to do it, so we stopped asking him. He’s very good with other dogs his size, but we haven’t tried him with little dogs, and we don’t know about cats. We won’t place him with small children, because they added to his abuse in his first home, and we don’t know if he holds a grudge. He loves to be brushed and pays a little too much attention to squirrels. Sully desperately needs a forever home where he can comfortably spend his golden years. He doesn’t require much - a comfy bed, a few slow walks every day to keep his joints from hurting, and someone who will give him the attention he deserves. Please don’t let the rest of Sully’s life be as unhappy as it’s been so far. Please give him a happy ending to his story. Apply to adopt Sully at www.huskyhouse.org
